Gichi-manidoo Giizis

Aaniin 2024! A whole new year brimming with possibilities 𤩠Thereās also a lot of pressure and so much can seem daunting. Letās slow it down and take it month by month OR better yet moon by moon š The anishinaabe calendar is based on a lunar cycle with 13 moons-each moon has a special lesson. This painting is acrylic on recycled canvas and is to celebrate the first moon in all creation Gichi-Manidoo Giizis The Great Spirit moon. Winter is a sacred time of year, during this moon we recognize who we are in connection to our relations, land, water and all creation. Itās a time of sacred story telling and when the northern lights are most active. The northern lights are thought to be symbolic of spirits of the departed dancing with one another. Time of silence, reflection and our place in this world.
Itās a pleasure to bring another year of painting to you. I hope these lunar cycle paintings are a fun path for you as they are for me and I canāt wait to explore together and remind ourselves of all the good things in life ā¤ļø
